Medical Assistant EKG Phlebotomy
The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy/EKG Technician Specialist Dual program is specifically designed to prepare students with the skills and medical knowledge required to comprehend and apply technical and clinical skills necessary to perform Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy and EKG procedures whether in a clinical or laboratory setting. Medical assistants often take medical histories and record vital signs of patients. Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice.
Phlebotomy Technicians, sometimes called Venipuncturist, play an important role in the healthcare system. The main duty of a Phlebotomist is to draw patient’s blood for testing (venipuncture). Professional Phlebotomists have the satisfaction of knowing that their work helps to diagnose and treat illness, and that they contribute to the health and well-being of their communities.
EKG Technicians perform electrocardiogram diagnostic services for patients. An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart.

Patient Care Technician
The Patient Care Technician program prepares graduates to work alongside doctors, nurses and other health care professionals providing direct patient care in a variety of health care environments. This exciting profession allows the individual to help others with both personal care and activities of daily living, while also providing technical skills needed within multiple healthcare teams. Patient Care Technicians care for patients needing all levels of care. The PCT plays a vital role in the health care delivery team since they often have more direct patient contact than any other team member.
Patient Care Technician Duties Include:
- Assists patients with daily activities such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, standing, walking or exercising
- Assists practitioners with medical procedures, phlebotomy and electrocardiography
- Prepares medical instruments or equipment for use
- Records vital statistics or other health information
- Stocks medical or patient care supplies
- Transports biological or other medical materials
- Reports and records patients’ condition and treatment
- Collects biological specimens from patients
- Explains technical medical information to patients
